Founded in January 2016, the Center for Ecolinguistics (CE), affiliated to the School of Foreign Studies, is a research institute directly under the leadership of South China Agricultural University (SCAU). The director of this Center is Professor Huang Guowen, a Yangtze River Distinguished Professor and Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, SCAU (Ph.D.; Email: flshgw@scau.edu.cn); vice directors are Professor Xiao Haozhang (Ph.D.; Email: samhzxiao@139.com) and Professor Chen Yang (Ph.D.; Email: bschenyang@126.com); and the secretary is Li Feiwu (Email: 478821189@ qq.com).
The Center is engaged in academic activities with “ecolinguistics” Ph.D. program as the pivot, and its research orientations include language ecology, eco-discourse analysis, and ecological translation. The research team is composed of three professors, seven associate professors, and seven lecturers.
In carrying out studies in language, culture, and translation, this Center takes a cross disciplinary perspective, which embodies the disciplinary features of agricultural universities. One of the research focuses of this Center is A Systemic Functional Approach to Ecological Analyses of Discourse.
Currently, the Center has established strong academic connections with foreign scholars such as Arran Stibbe (University of Gloucestershire, U.K.), Alwin Fill (University of Graz, Austria), Sune Vork Steffensen (University of Southern Denmark, Denmark), Jonathan J. Webster (City University of Hong Kong), Wendy L. Bowcher (Sun Yat-sen University, China). The Center also maintains close connections with scholars from a number of universities from within China, including City University of Macau, Sun Yat-sen University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, University of Science & Technology Beijing, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Jinan University, Beijing Normal University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China Agricultural University, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing International Studies University, University of International Business and Economics, etc.
