On November 29, Prof.Yang Feng from Shanghai Jiao Tong University visited SFS and delivered a speechtitled “The Value and Significance of Chinese Culture in the Construction of a Communitywith a Shared Future for Mankind”. Dean of SFS,Prof. Huang Guowen, chaired the lecture. Secretary Wu Shantian and teachers andstudents of SFS attended.

Prof.Yang started with the influence of westernization, modernization andglobalization on the inheritance and transmission of Chinese culture, andanalyzed the contributions of Chinese culture to the world that suffers theloss of order in the post-imperialist period. Prof. Yang introduced the decayof modernization and the issues brought by globalization and pointed out thatthe nature of modernization is the justification of selfness and the pursuit ofpersonal interest. He also talked out the menace caused by the irrationaldevelopment of technology. He then explored the sense of responsibility, senseof duty, collectivism and harmony entailed in Chinese culture, which can beinstrumental in restoring world order.

Thelecture was well-received by the audience.
