On November 15, Prof Tang Weisheng from Guangdong University of Foreign Studiesvisited School of Foreign Studies and delivered a speech titled “’MaterialTurn’ in Narrative Research” in Room 5A402 of SFS. Prof. Li Zhanxi chaired thelecture.

In his lecture, Prof. Tang explained thecutting-edge theories in narratology and explored “material turn” in contemporaryAmerican literature. He suggested that “material turn” was a natural result ofpost-humanism, and that it could provide insights for feminist literarycriticism, environmental literary criticism and post-colonial literarycriticism etc.

Alarge number of teachers and students from SFS attended the lecture and wereall impressed by Prof. Tang’s rigorous attitude in research and his insightfulideas.
