On November 25, Professor Charles Li gave a lecture on his new modelof Second Language Acquisition (SLA) in Room 5A607 of School of Foreign Studies.Professor Xiao Haozhang chaired the lecture.

Professor Charles Li arrived in Guangzhou on November 23 and willattend the first symposium on Ecolinguistics held in South China AgriculturalUniversity on November 26 and 27. He was invited by Dean of the School ofForeign Studies Professor Huang Guowen to give the lecture before thesymposium.

In his speech, Professor Li first made a review of over a dozenapproaches to SLA and then subsumed them into three strands essential incharacterizing second language development. The review was followed by acritical evaluation of two polarizing yet representative SLA models. He thenput forward his new model that was modulated and strand-mediated.

The lecture attracted a large number of teachers from the school.And when the lecture was finished, the teachers asked many questions, whichProfessor Li answered patiently and in great detail.
